Bio:
Ever since I was very young I always knew I wanted a career in art; I just didn't know exactly which direction art would take me.
I was born in Ashland, KY. In 1977 I received a bachelor of arts degree in graphic design/illustration from Eastern Kentucky University with minors in both filmmaking and philosophy.
After graduation, I worked as a graphic designer for various companies in Kentucky, including a television station and a major advertising agency, where I eventually became a supervisor over a large art department. In 1987 I took a job as art director for the U.S. Space and Rocket Center/U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. I was a child during the race to the moon and because of that my heroes were all astronauts. The job at the Space Center was an amazing time for me. I was very fortunate to meet and work with several of my heroes including Alan Shepard and Buzz Aldrin. It was a dream job.
Not long after moving to Huntsville my efforts to find freelance illustration assignments started to pay off . For a few years I worked a full-time job during the day and worked nights and weekends on freelance illustration projects.
I sadly left the Space and Rocket Center in February 1991 to form my own company. It was about this time I met my future wife at an art show in Chattanooga, TN. We were married in 1993 and I relocated to Long Island, NY. After a short period at a local advertising agency I plunged back into full time freelancing.
I am very flexable in my work as an independant contractor. I usually telecommute from my studio but I can work on site if needed. Manhattan is a short train ride away and I find that living close to my major clients to be a definate advantage.
